"Angst" ... The German word for "Fear" ...

In the international language known for being part of the term 'Teen Angst' which is used for adolescents dealing with anger and other negative emotions. And now the German project Persons Unknown from Aachen presents its third solo release titled "Angst". On this album Persons Unknown make audible how they handle anger and negative emotions. Not in an adolescent way though, let that part be clear. Since the Unknown ones have been actively making music for over 20 years, they know exactly what to do and how to do it.

In over forty minutes a picture is sketched of a world that isn't on the verge of demise, but it has long, long gone. It has turned into a post nuclear dystopian wasteland and all that is left to do is scream out in anger, despair or sadness. The eight tracks on the album are carefully constructed and consist of a mixture of power electronics, noise and deep droning textures accompanied by lyrics in German and English.

Titles like "Ein Tag aus meinem Leben" (a day in my life), "Color me sad" and "Niemals zurück" (never going back) emphasize the darkness, but in most cases the vocals are not that distorted they become inaudible. And that is a great addition towards understanding the mind and world of Persons Unknown. And like them, you would have never known that the world after its destruction - simply being the biggest pile of dirt - would sound this hypnotic and in a strange way beautiful.
